Organic & Fair Trade
Feel good about drinking coffee that’s better for you, the planet, and its people.
We only sell fair trade and organic coffee, which is also the norm and standard for all Himalayan coffee farmers! Growing conditions in Nepal are highly favorable to coffee farmers and this often reduces or even eliminates the need for pesticides and fertilizers altogether. Even established coffee growers in Nepal, who could afford to buy such chemicals for their farms, choose to produce organic coffee because they have made a conscientious decision to do so and because it is an easy economical choice. It is, however, rare to find farmers that are “certified” by an external agency. The reason for this mainly comes down to cost. The majority of all farmers in Nepal are small-scale farmers that simply cannot afford the high costs of obtaining such certifications, even though they often exceed the requirements for such certifications. Add in the bureaucracy and the fact that many farmers are in very remote areas of Nepal-their choice to forego certification makes sense.

The Himalayan region’s farmers and leaders are committed to sustainable coffee growing practices, including providing much needed employment opportunities, training, paying fair wages, providing safe working conditions, promoting reforestation, empowering individuals (especially women) and vulnerable populations, and taking steps to lift the community out of poverty.
